Melf-Uwe Hollmer - trumpet
Born in the North-German town of Husum, Melf-Uwe first received classical violin lessons before learning to play the trumpet - just like Jochen Rose. During high-school years he formed his first Traditional Jazz band with local musicians.
He later went on to study music and different kinds of Jazz at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg with Bob Lanese. Asked by the OMTJ to join the band, first as a sub, now as a regular member, he returned to his musical beginnings in Traditional Jazz.
But Melfs musical icons include trumpet players from various periods and styles, including Louis Armstrong, Harry "Sweets" Edison, Miles Davis and Freddie Hubbard. Accordingly, he loves to play in bands featuring different kinds of Jazz from New Orleans, Swing and Bebop to Fusion.
His broad interests in Jazz and his adaptability to play with all kinds of musicians has taken Melf to many countries all across Europe. In addition to teaching-jobs at several schools, Melf-Uwe leads two bigbands in the Hamburg region.
